FAQ
Have a question and don't see the answer below? Click here to chat with an LED expert.
- How long is the lead length on a normal strip light?
- Every strip light is made with 6" wire leads on both ends of the 16.4' reel of lights. This allows you to cut the strip light anywhere and utilize both ends for your project.
- What lengths are available? What if I need longer than 16.4'?
- All of our strip lights are manufactured to 16.4' (5 Meters) but they can be daisy chained together. For high volume, special orders can be made custom to length. Call or chat for more information. For specific questions about your application, feel free to chat with one of our LED lighting experts.
- How do I connect my strip lights to the power supply?
- On the strip light, there are two wires; a red wire and a black wire. The red wire is the line(+) wire and the black wire is the neutral(-) wire. Your power supply will also have a line(+) and neutral(-) wire. Connect the corresponding wires together using standard wire nuts or splice/crimp connectors.
- What gauge wire should I use to run between my strip light and my power supply?
- This depends on the distance between your strip light and the power supply. We generally recommend using between 18ga and 14ga stranded wire. Longer distances require larger gauge wire. Always consult a wire gauge chart to determine the correct size wire for your application.
Non-Dimmable Power Supplies
Dimmable Power Supplies
Mounting Channel & Track
LED strip lights are a low-voltage (12VDC or 24VDC) product and require a constant source of low voltage power in order to operate. In most residential or commercial applications, a power supply (sometimes called a driver or transformer) is used to provide the LED strip lights with the low voltage power that they need to run. The power supply connects to standard house current (120VAC) and steps this current down to 12 or 24VDC. In automotive or marine applications, this power can be supplied from a 12vdc or 24vdc battery. The most popular voltage used by residential and commercial customers is 24VDC, since it is still a safe low voltage and yet it provides more protection against voltage drop, and consumes less current. If you have any questions about sizing your power supply, please don't hesitate to chat live with an LED expert.

Simply round *up* to the nearest power supply size. Remember that it never hurts to go larger with your power supply, but your lights will not operate properly if your power supply is too small. If needed, you can also use multiple power suppliesto meet your consumption requirement.
The minimum power supply size automatically adds 20% to your total consumption to account for voltage drop and in-rush current at startup.

Choosing the right voltage
Residential & Commercial Applications
24VDC (24 volts DC) is the most popular option for residential (under-cabinet, kitchen, cove molding, accent lighting, etc.) and commercial (architectural, signage, safety, accent lighting, etc.) applications. 24VDC is a safe, low voltage and is the most stable and reliable voltage for your LED strip lights.
Automotive, Motorcycle, Boat & Battery Applications
12VDC (12 volts DC) is popular for automotive, motorcycle, boat/marine applications, or other installations where you are connecting your strip lights to a 12VDC battery.

Choosing a color
White Light
Warm White

Warm White is most popular light color for residential applications and has a bit of a gentle/soft warmth/yellowish hue to it. Warm white is the same color as a standard incandescent light bulb, which is 2700-3000K.
Cool White

Cool white (also referred to as Neutral White) is popular for commercial (office/hospital/medical/municipal) applications. It is also very popular in modern-style residential projects. Cool white is a very pure white, it doesn't really have any yellowish or blueish hue. Cool white is the same color as most fluorescent light bulbs, which is 6000K.
Colored Light
If you're looking for a specific color of light output, we also offer a variety of colored LEDs, including: Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.

Choosing the right waterproofing type
Non-Waterproof

Our non-waterproof LED strip lights are designed for indoor use only and are not intended for any exposure to water. They feature a 3M adhesive tape backing, which allows you to peel and stick them directly to virtually any clean surface. Our non-waterproof LED strip lights are IP44 rated.
Water Resistant

Our water resistant LED strip lights have a protective layer of silicone applied over the entire face of the LED strip, which protects all of the LEDs and resistors from intermittent/infrequent exposure to small amounts of water. They also feature a 3M adhesive tape backing, allowing you to peel and stick them to virtually any clean surface. Our water resistant strip lights are frequently used for automotive/motorcycle lighting and residential/commercial architectural accent lighting when they will only be exposed to intermittent water. Our water resistant LED strip lights are IP65 rated.
Waterproof (Submersible)

Our waterproof LED strip lights are fully encased inside of a flexible protective silicone shell. Our waterproof strip lights are designed for constant use outdoors or underwater. They do not have an adhesive backing and are designed to be installed using our mounting straps, or with an adhesive caulk. Our waterproof LED strip lights are IP68 rated and are fully submersible, allowing you to use them underwater.

Choosing a beam angle
What is beam angle?
The beam angle is the angle at which light exits your light fixture. The larger the number, the wider the beam of light that is emitted from the light fixture. Most standard residential and commercial fixtures are a flood-light (60 degree) beam angle. However, spotlight (15 degree) beam angles are very popular for highlighting art work/sculptures, or for areas where you want to direct light at a specific place or object.
