Shop NSF Rated LED Lighting
For a commercial kitchen to pass a health inspection, light fixtures in and around food prep areas must be NSF-certified: sealed, shatter-resistant, and made of non-toxic, corrosion-resistant, easy to clean materials so they don't harbor bacteria or drop debris into food. aspectLED's NSF-rated low profile light bars and recessed lights are built and listed to that standard for kitchens, food-processing floors, clean rooms, and walk-ins.
What NSF certification means for lighting
NSF certification confirms a fixture's materials and construction meet sanitation standards for food environments: smooth sealed housings with no debris traps, gasketed lenses, corrosion and moisture resistant materials and surfaces that wipe clean. A fixture carrying a NSF mark has been tested and listed, not just described as "food-safe."
When NSF-rated lighting is required
Requirements follow the three zones health inspectors us:
- Food zone - directly over exposed food and prep surfaces. Fixtures must be NSF-certified and shatter-resistant.
- Splash zone - near sinks, dishwashing, and wet areas. Sealed, corrosion-resistant, NSF-rated fixtures.
- Non-food zone - storage and back-of-house. Standard commercial fixtures are usually acceptable.
Above food prep specifically, the fixture must be enclosed and shatter-resistant so a broken lens cannot contaminate food, which is the core reason a standard strip or shop light fails inspection.
