Backlit Hotel Design with LED Light Sheets
A hotel in New Orleans set out to elevate its bar area with a glowing, visually striking backlit feature. The goal was a smooth, evenly illuminated surface that enhanced the ambiance without visible hotspots or shadows. While the customer initially considered LED strip lights, they ultimately chose aspectLED light sheets after reviewing samples sent from the aspectLED Support Team and seeing firsthand how evenly they distribute light. The light sheets delivered the clean, diffused glow they envisioned while simplifying installation.

Flexible LED Light Sheets & Wireless Control
To achieve even, consistent illumination with high efficiency, the project used 36-watt Standard Bright LED Light Sheets. These were chosen for their balanced brightness, low power consumption, and suitability for backlighting architectural features.
The system was controlled with the Casambi Wireless Controller and RGBW PWM Booster – Signal Amplifiers, chosen for reliability, scalability, and an intuitive interface. All power connections were consolidated into a single control point for streamlined operation. To ensure stable performance across the installation, we also included 250-Watt LED Power Supplies to deliver consistent, reliable power to the entire system.
Seamless Integration Behind the Bar
Once the layout was finalized, the aspectLED Technical Team worked with the hotel staff to adhere the flexible light sheets directly onto the plasterboard in a smooth, continuous pattern. Their thin profile and simple peel-and-stick backing made them a practical choice for the tight, concealed space behind the bar.
A few challenges surfaced during installation. Some light sheets were placed in mixed orientations, which led to polarity and wiring issues. This was corrected by realigning and rewiring the affected sheets, ensuring steady performance across the entire array. Another issue stemmed from the original 300-watt power supplies. These units include a built-in safety mechanism that shut them off when voltage irregularities, such as flickering, occur. Because the light sheets were brighter than the application required, they were dimmed significantly, causing the power supplies to behave unpredictably. This resulted in shutdowns that required manual resets and created understandable frustration for the customer. To resolve this, the 300-watt units were replaced with smaller 250-watt power supplies that did not include the auto-reset feature. This simple adjustment eliminated both the flickering and the shutdowns, restoring stable performance and ensuring the lighting system operated exactly as intended.
With these refinements, the installation achieved its goal: a clean, dependable, beautifully illuminated backlit bar.
