- Code Compliance: Always install this product in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and all building and electrical codes for your area. We recommend working with a licensed electrician when installing this product.
- Before doing any electrical work, always disconnect power at the fuse or circuit breaker.
- Maximum Run Length: Do not connect more than 4 wall washers in series. Exceeding this limit may lead to overheating and reduce the lifespan of the fixtures.
- Ensure all Connections must be properly protected.
- Mounting Requirements: Allow a minimum air gap of 3 inches around the wall washer to ensure proper ventilation.
-
Safety First:
- Turn off all power at the breaker before installation.
- Use insulated tools and treat all components as if they are energized.
- Always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Applications: "Wall washing" and "grazing" are two lighting techniques used for walls.
- Wall washing evenly lights up a surface to eliminate shadows, making it ideal for highlighting large, flat areas.
- Grazing positions the light very close to the wall, accentuating textures and creating dramatic shadows.
-
Beam Angle Selection: Our Slim, Micro, and HP Series offer 15°, 30°, or 45° beam angles.
- 15°: Tight beam, ideal for focused lighting (e.g., spotlights).
- 30°: A balanced middle ground between the two.
- 45°: Wider beam, ideal for larger areas, though less intense.
-
Mounting Location (Outdoor Use):
- Wall washers are suitable for use in dry or damp outdoor environments.
- Wall washers should never be submerged in standing water.
- Typically, wall washers should be installed facing upwards. If mounted facing down, ensure they are in a sheltered area to prevent water exposure to the sides and back.
1. Choose the Mounting Location for the Wall Washer
Start by setting up the wall washer and turning it on to visualize its placement (see step 7 for instructions to connect to the power supply). Move the light around and adjust the position to find the optimal lighting effect until you’re satisfied with the result.
2. Determine the Power Supply Location
Ideally, place the power supply close to the wall washer. If the power supply needs to be located remotely, use the voltage drop chart to select the appropriate wire size. Always locate the power supply in an accessible location for future servicing. Be sure to use wire rated for the specific application—such as in-wall rated wire when install the wire within a wall.
3. Adjust the Bracket Angle
Use an Allen wrench to adjust the angle of the wall washer to your desired position.
4. Mark Hole Locations for Mounting
Using the bracket holes as a guide, mark where the mounting holes will go on the surface you're attaching the wall washer to.
5. Pre-Drill and Install Fasteners
Drill the marked holes and install the appropriate fasteners. It’s recommended to use two fasteners per bracket for secure mounting.
6. Mount the Bracket
Remove the fasteners, install the bracket onto the wall, and then reattach the fasteners to secure the bracket in place.
7. Wire the Power Supply to the Wall Washer
Wiring varies based on the wall washer model.
- For the Micro Series, connect the black wire to black and the red wire to red.
- For the HP wall washer, connect the brown wire to the positive terminal and the blue wire to the negative terminal.
- For the RGB HP Wall Washer (DMX version): The RGB version is a DMX fixture. When purchasing, you’ll need to select an address. The power wires include 3 thicker wires, while the DMX signal wires are 4 thinner ones:
- Brown = D+
- Blue = D-
- Black = Ground
- Green/Yellow = Programming (do not use).
8. Test the Wiring and Functionality
Once wired, test the system to ensure everything works as expected. For DMX-equipped systems, confirm that the DMX system is functioning properly. Set the address on the red channel, followed by the green and blue channels.
9. Enjoy Your New Lighting Setup!
Congratulations, you’ve successfully installed your wall washer—now enjoy the improved lighting!
