5 Benefits of LED Bedroom Lighting

  • Design Flexibility From lighting under the perimeter of the bed frame, to backlighting the headboard, or shelf lighting in the closet, LED lighting offers endless design possibilities. Accent lighting can be used for toe-kicks or to highlight specific architectural features such as a cove ceiling. Add task lighting in closets or for reading nooks and utilize general area lighting to illuminate the entire space effectively.
  • Better Sleep and Wellness The right bedroom lighting supports better sleep by aligning with your natural circadian rhythm. Avoiding cool LED color temperatures (4000+K) in this space in the evening can help prevent alertness and create a restful environment. Warm white light (2700-3000K) is ideal for bedrooms since it mimics sunset and helps promote relaxation as you prepare for a good night’s sleep.
  • Superior Light Quality and Control LED lighting offers a variety of color selections and dimming controls so you can set the perfect light level for any mood. Color-tunable LEDs allow you to adjust the white color temperature to suit your preference or the time of day. Select a warm white as you ease into your day, a cool white through the afternoon to help you stay alert, and a soft white for a pleasant and cozy evening at the end of a busy day.
  • Smart Home Integration We have two options when it comes to Smart Home LED Lighting Controls: The Casambi Bluetooth Controller and the Lutron Caseta Dimmer Switch.
The Casambi system utilizes Bluetooth technology, allowing you to easily adjust your lighting from anywhere in your bedroom using a free app on your mobile device. With Casambi, you can enjoy single color, RGB, and color tuning options for a fully customizable atmosphere.
With Lutron Caseta, along with the Caseta Smart Bridge, you can effortlessly control your LED lights from anywhere in the world using popular voice assistants like Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.
  • Long-Term Cost Savings When compared to incandescent lighting, LED’s have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours in contrast to just 1,200 hours for incandescent bulbs. Additionally, LEDs deliver 100 lumens per watt versus 16 lumens per watt for incandescents, making LEDs over six times more efficient. With LEDs, you’ll replace your lighting far less often than with incandescent fixtures, saving both time and money.

Choosing the Right LED Lights for Your Space

To create the perfect lighting environment for any application, it's essential to select the right LED options.

For sleep optimization, tunable white LEDs are ideal. They allow you to adjust the LED color temperature, using warmer tones to help you wind down at night and cooler tones during the day to promote alertness. Our tunable LED strip lights are a great choice for this purpose.

For entertainment, RGB or Tunable white solutions provide flexibility and ambiance. Our RGB strip lights and RGB recessed lights offer vibrant color options to enhance the atmosphere. Check out our RGB Recessed Light or our W-Series RGBW 4-in-1 strip lights.

For reading and work, task lighting using downlights or strip lights is highly effective. The most common color temperature range for closets and work areas is 3000-4000K, providing clear and comfortable illumination. Our L-Series 95+ strip light offers high-quality light, with no visible diodes or dots making it ideal for task lighting applications. Additionally, our 3.5” Ultra-Bright Recessed downlight, designed for flat or sloped ceilings is dimmable and perfect for reading nooks. We recommend selecting a spot (15 degree) beam angle for more focused light for your reading areas.

Smart Control and Automation

Experience seamless smart lighting control with our advanced systems. Using the Casambi Bluetooth 4 Channel PWM Controller you can control your lights using a free app on your phone when in range of the controller. Additionally, up to 127 Casambi controllers can be combined on a single network to create an intelligent Mesh Network. A mesh network is a group of devices that act as a single network, creating multiple sources of connectivity. With Casambi you can set scenes, animations, use the timer function to tell your lights when to come on or shut off, and set a circadian rhythm. Casambi is compatible with single color, tunable white, and color changing strip lights.

Lutron Caseta, along with the wireless Smart Bridge, integrates with popular smart home platforms for full lighting control whether you’re at home or away. Lutron’s system allows you to control fixtures individually or create specific zones by grouping fixtures together within the Lutron app. Lutron Caseta is compatible with single color fixtures only.

Key Features:

  • Voice Control Options (Lutron): Easily adjust your lights with simple voice commands.
  • Integration with Other Smart Home Devices (Lutron): Enhance your smart home ecosystem with seamless connections.
  • Smartphone Apps and Controllers (Lutron and Casambi): Manage your lighting from your smartphone for added convenience.
  • Automated Routines (Lutron and Casambi): Set up personalized routines, including: Wake-up lighting sequences, evening wind-down settings, and movie mode presets

Both Casambi and Lutron Caseta allow for preset timers, enabling you to schedule when your lights turn on and off. With Casambi, you can also create timed preset scenes that activate automatically, bringing ease and automation to your lighting experience.

Sleep Science and LED Lighting

Color temperature is essential for optimizing your sleep environment. Different colors and brightness levels can significantly impact your circadian rhythm throughout the day.

To enhance your morning wake-up experience, begin with warm and neutral color temperatures between 3000-4000K as you ease into your day. As your morning progress, consider adjusting to cooler LED color temperatures in the 5000K-6000K range. These cooler light temperatures help signal your brain and body to suppress melatonin production, increasing energy levels and promoting alertness.

For evening routines, it's best to shift back to warmer light outputs between 2700-3000K. These LED color temperatures promote relaxation and prepare your body for sleep.

For night light solutions, stick with warmer tones in the same range (2700-3000K) while keeping the lights dim. Limit overnight lighting to accent lights only and keep brightness levels low—around 15%—to minimize disruption when you need to get up at night.

Additionally, be mindful of blue light exposure, particularly in the evening, as it can interfere with your ability to fall asleep. Using LED lighting wisely can help you create a more sleep-friendly environment.

Maximizing Your Investment

LED lights are an excellent choice for efficiency in your bedroom project. With a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours compared to only 1,200 hours for incandescent bulbs, LEDs not only last longer but also provide significant energy savings. They deliver an impressive 100 lumens per watt, while incandescent bulbs offer just 16 lumens per watt, making LEDs more than six times more efficient. This means you’ll spend less time and money replacing your lights, resulting in long-term cost benefits for your lighting investment.
